Ok i was reading through all the reviews here before i went and bought a netbook and I have to say i was scared by the reviews on here. The fat battery thing in particular. Well I got one anyway and I had to say that i am NOT disappointed in any way so far. Yes it does indeed have a very strange battery design, possibly even ugly….BUT it has an amazing battery life and other than that it’s awesome! This little guy is weightless and works like a charm. It can do everything my mac powerbook can do and it’s a lot smaller and lighter. It did have a small issue in that windows 7 starter wouldn’t let me make my own wallpaper at first and that’s BAD! But before you get mad like I did, let me inform you that you can you know *nudge* *nudge* fix it, so that you can make your own wallpaper no sweat. So once that problem was overcome I so far haven’t had any issues using it to everything i usually do on a laptop. Watch movies, download files, itunes, etc. I don’t recommend anything like dvd creation or things like that, but that’s obvious anyway….

Before I purchased this netbook I did quite a bit of research and I’m happy that I chose the Sony Vaio. For one thing, you just can’t go wrong with Sony quality, and the design of this netbook is simply stunning. It is the best looking design on the market. I chose the brown color, which interestingly is really more of a plum color – looks brown in low light, looks more like a plum color in brighter lighting.
Another reviewer had complained how the extended life battery causes the netbook to look unappealing. I totally disagree and also find that the placement of that battery is simply perfect to provide the optimal tilt to the machine when using it.
Windows 7 loads up very fast and the screen resolution is excellent. This machine is so light – I replaced my old Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop, which was a good 9lbs on a light day! It’s like night & day. The Vaio is actually even smaller than I expected, but I have found typing to be quite easy on it. Though I think if you were working on a large document perhaps you would grow tired of such a petite keyboard – but hey, that’s what your desktop is for!
I’m looking forward to taking this beauty on the road with me soon.

I was told at the Sonystyle store that a smaller battery was available, so I went ahead and bought the W121AX/T. When it came it also included an accessory catalog which listed the smaller battery at $89.00. I called Sony and, after some “pass me around conversations”, I got a person that said she could sell me the battery. It was $450 which was $8 more than I paid for the netbook with monster battery.

I am very satisfied with my W Series netbook. I was aware of the criticisms posted by some other reviewers. The netbook works fine for me. The profile photo on Amazon clearly shows the battery unlike some other sites. It doesn’t bother me at all. It tilts the netbook at a nice angle, and it keeps the netbook cooler. The fan is not that loud. The display is great! The high resolution images are superb. If you are far-sighted, you might want something else. I like the clarity of the images. The right shift key is small, but I have adjusted. The keyboard feels nice and I can type fairly rapidly. I bought it for reading email, surfing the web, and working on basic Office documents. It does all of these things well. There are cheaper products, but I like the Sony quality and reliability. I recommend this netbook.

Awesome Laptop / Great Value
After replacing my 8 year old Dell Laptop, I looked into this Vaio upon the recommendation of a few friends. I’m not a tech-guy by any stretch, just wanted a solid everyday home laptop with good memory for interent, Itunes, Quickbooks, Skype and some word processing (no gaming) and this laptop absolutely fit the bill! Solid construction, unique and appealing design (case texture is great, shows no fingerprints), comfortable, wide and spacious keyboard, lightning fast-start up and downloads, user-freindly, gorgeous Hi-Def screen, great for watching videos and DVD’s, fast CD and DVD burner and an awesome camera for Skyping with friends and family. For the price (just a shy over $600) and complete with Windows 7, you can’t beat it! Battery life is fine too. Unlike some complaints, mine gets just under 3 hours which suits my needs and also charges very fast. I’ve had freinds that have owned Vaio’s years with little to no problems, and now glad to own one myself. If you’re looking for a rock solid laptop with style and function, get this one. I’m happy I made this purchase, would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Normally the batteries which the manufacturers provide with the Laptops are Li-Ion or Li-Polymer these are rechargeable batteries and can give you optimum backup even you are working on battery packs. But the main thing is tat how to optimize it to make it work more efficiently.
The common term when we talk about Battery in Laptops is the Depth of Discharge (DOD). Depth of Discharge (DOD) is the amount that a battery is run down to before it is put back on charge. For a notebook this can vary enormously. Many machines are only run down to 70% battery during short stints of battery power (known as a shallow DOD), others are discharged completely to 10% or 5% (known as deep DOD), this is when the notebook switches off or warns about low battery.
Now another technical aspect is the charge cycle. A charge cycle is a cycle of running the battery down and then charging it up again. One charge cycle is classified as when the battery is run down to 70% or less and then charged again to 90% or more. A battery does not have to be discharged until it is flat before a charge cycle is used.
The other main factor that affects battery life is temperature, the hotter the battery the less charge cycles it will run for, the industry suggestions are that a battery is run at between 10 and 30 degrees centigrade. It should be noted that it may be hotter inside the notebook where the battery is than in the room where it is being used.
The battery life and rechargeable ability of a particular type of batteries like Li-Ion varies but these are more than enough for you before going for its replacement. Always try to have a look at your battery packs how much backup they provide and time of full charge. This is done so as to check if the batteries are becoming old or demanding for the replacement or what. If possible a00001FEFlways try to use Power Supply while working on Laptops.
Always carry with you an extra battery pack so as to use it when you are traveling and where it is not possible to lug in to the Power Supply. If you have found that the batteries has gone old then immediately replace it with new one and never keep the old batteries in the Laptop thinking of buying the new one.
